My Name is Vivek. I started this blog to discuss my thoughts, primarily and most often, on Education and sometimes on other things that catch my fancy. Since Education is about children and how they relate to each other and to you and me, this blog is also about Life itself.
I had an exciting education myself- studying at the Doon School, under some fantastic teachers and great friends on a large campus that once belonged to the Forest Research Institute of India. It was a fantastic place to grow up, full of stories, activities and great people who lived for the sake of education and schooling.
I have studied Economics & International Trade (Sydenham), Finance and Marketing (Indian Institute of Management) and Education (Harvard University). As a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard I focussed on education policy, school reform and large scale assessments.
Experiences at work include running a school (k-11), helping set-up 3 schools, curriculum development, teacher training and of course teaching. Designing Assessments, a critical key in running an effective classroom, is one of my strengths.
I have also been a home-tutor, freelance journalist, a business manager, marketing consultant, have assisted in writing screenplay for TV soaps and assisted in directed advertisements for TV.
But none has been more challenging than writing a blog!
I hope am determined to to do the following in the next ten years: run an education-services company (it will most certainly be focussed on second language learning and career guidance for students), run a school, write for a major newspaper or produce educational content for television, assist in curriculum and syllabus design for our national boards of Education.
As of now though, I’m still learning. I wish to run up a steep learning curve but recently (very late!) realised that one very often can mistake the running for the imbibing. I now want a healthy learning curve, imbibe and experience a lot and have fun along the way!
I hope you will chime in with you thoughts and comments on my posts. I look forward to our conversation, either through comments on this blog or at my e-mail theredpencil [at] gmail.com
All the best!
